Recently I put Disappearances up on Smashwords. I plan to keep it up for free on scribd, feedbooks, and my site, but I wanted to get into new markets with other readers – mostly Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and the iBookstore, and that meant putting it on Smashwords.
Even though it’s available for free, I listed it for a price, $4.99. I did this because:

Here are the stats for the first 48 hours of my recent novel release. I pay attention to this information, even if it isn’t sales, because it interests me and I like to see how any work is doing when I release it.
The overall winner for generating hits is Scribd.com. They were gracious enough to feature my work once I put it up there. That front page bump really helps.

Disappearances tells the story of a young man mentally disconnected. Early one morning he’s awoken from a restless sleep by a plane crash outside his apartment window. Rushing down to the scene, the young man is unable to find anyone – no people, no rescue workers, no survivors. He is alone.
